DP World Announces Major Investment In Egypt's Cold Storage Facility To Boost Trade Infrastructure
In a strategic move to bolster Egypt's logistics and trade infrastructure, DP World has announced an investment of approximately EGP 1.42 billion ($29 million) to construct a cutting-edge cold storage facility.
This initiative comes on the heels of DP World securing a plot of land in the Elsewedy Industrial Development Park, located within Al Oula Industrial City. This development is timely, given the growing demand both locally and internationally for advanced, energy-efficient storage solutions, particularly for agricultural exports and the frozen food industry.
The new facility, encompassing 16,194 sqm, is designed to house eight separately controlled chambers, boasting a combined capacity of 25,000 pallet positions for both chilled and frozen items such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, and frozen foods.
It will be outfitted with a state-of-the-art refrigeration system that not only ensures optimal energy efficiency but also maintains precise climate control to adhere to the highest global standards. This initiative underscores DP World's dedication to enhancing Egypt's capabilities in logistics and trade, signifying a leap forward in the country's cold chain sector.
Mohammad Shihab, CEO of DP World Egypt and executive vice president of North Africa, highlighted the importance of this project, stating, "This facility represents a significant milestone in our journey to help strengthen Egypt's logistics and trade ecosystem. By introducing world-class cold chain capabilities, we are enabling exporters and manufacturers to expand their reach, improve efficiency, and capture new opportunities.
"Together with our Sokhna Logistics Park, which is expected to be operational soon, we are creating an integrated network that will unlock growth and reinforce Egypt's position as a vital hub for global trade."
The strategic positioning of the facility offers unparalleled advantages, including direct access to Greater Cairo, national highways, and major export routes. This prime location is expected to enhance both domestic distribution and international shipping, significantly improving Egypt's competitiveness in the global market, reducing food waste, and preserving food quality through an efficient cold chain.
DP World's comprehensive approach to upgrading Egypt's logistics sector is evident in its series of investments, including the development of the Port of Ain Sokhna, the upcoming Sokhna Logistics Park, and various third-party contract logistics services.
This cold storage facility is another testament to DP World's commitment to supporting the national economy, enhancing food supply chain resilience, and opening new avenues for local industry growth.
