DP World Egypt Receives LNG Vessel And Record Iron Ore Shipment At Ain Sokhna Port
DP World Egypt recently highlighted its operational capabilities at Ain Sokhna Port by handling a variety of vessels. This month, the port received the Energos Eskimo, a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU), the largest iron ore shipment in Egypt's history, and the Aroya cruise ship. These activities underscore the port's role in advancing Egypt's trade, energy, and tourism objectives.
The Energos Eskimo, operated by New Fortress Energy (NFE), arrived at Sokhna for technical upgrades. These enhancements include changes to its high-pressure gas manifold. The FSRU is preparing for its next stop at SUMED Port, where it will start injecting natural gas into Egypt’s national grid.

The port also welcomed the Berge Kuju, a 300-metre dry bulk vessel from Brazil. It carried 180,008 tonnes of iron ore for Ezz Steel. This delivery marks the largest iron ore shipment ever received at an Egyptian port. It is part of a strategic agreement supporting over 6 million tonnes of annual iron ore throughput at Sokhna.
Additionally, the Aroya cruise ship docked with 2,300 passengers on board. This visit was part of an annual agreement with Cruise Saudi and marked its second scheduled stop at Sokhna Port this year.
Mohammad Shihab, CEO of DP World Egypt, stated: "DP World Egypt continues to prove its ability to manage diverse vessel types with efficiency and precision, from LNG carriers and dry bulk ships to cruise liners." He emphasised that Sokhna Port’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure are crucial for connecting Egypt with East and North Africa, Asia, and beyond.
Sokhna Port plays a vital role in supporting trade flows and contributing to Egypt’s economic development goals. Its ability to handle various vessel types efficiently demonstrates its importance as a regional hub.
Future Developments
DP World Sokhna is currently working on the $80 million Sokhna Logistics Park project. This development aims to enhance the port's logistics capabilities further. The project reflects DP World's commitment to strengthening Egypt's position in global trade networks.
The recent activities at Ain Sokhna Port highlight its significance in managing diverse maritime operations. By accommodating different vessel types effectively, the port supports Egypt's broader economic ambitions while fostering international connections.
