DEWA Achieves Global Top Spot in Energy Utility Agility Rankings

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been recognized as the top-rated energy utility worldwide in terms of agility, following an extensive evaluation by the international Business Agility Institute (BAI). This accolade underscores DEWA's adeptness in navigating challenges and converting them into opportunities, particularly during the globally turbulent times faced by businesses. The BAI assessment commended DEWA for its rapid agile transformation, a feat that took just two years to accomplish, whereas similar organizations often require over five years to achieve such progress.

The assessment further acknowledged DEWA's leadership in developing effective business agility capabilities, surpassing many organizations of comparable size and complexity. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, along with Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence; Ali Al Muwaijei, Vice President of Governance, Compliance and Agility; and the governance, compliance, and agility team at DEWA, were present to receive the certificate at DEWA’s head office.

DEWA Leads in Global Utility Agility

Al Tayer remarked on the importance of agility and resilience for DEWA, emphasizing the organization's commitment to good governance to enhance its ability to manage risks and respond promptly to challenges. This approach is vital in the face of rapid changes in both the public and private sectors. He highlighted how DEWA's agility has been instrumental in its success, enabling it to identify opportunities and thoroughly analyze both internal and external environments.

DEWA's innovative practices have set a benchmark for numerous local, regional, and global organizations. The authority has demonstrated its agility through a focus on customer service, implementing several pioneering initiatives. Among these is the adoption of ChatGPT to enhance customer experience and service delivery standards. Additionally, DEWA has embraced smart grid technology to boost efficiency and reduce costs.

In its quest for innovation, DEWA has established an Innovation Centre and a Research and Development (R&D) Centre aimed at developing new ideas and technologies to maintain a competitive edge. Al Tayer also mentioned DEWA's commitment to the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 through various projects including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a planned capacity of 5,000MW by 2030, the Green Hydrogen Project, and a pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta utilizing clean energy.

Waleed bin Salman discussed DEWA’s alignment with the Dubai Future Readiness Index's organisational agility and change management pillar. As part of its strategy to become a fully agile utility, DEWA aims to ensure business continuity at all times while understanding stakeholder needs and transforming them into strategic initiatives. This approach is designed to enhance stakeholder happiness and deliver services that meet the highest international standards.
