DCT Abu Dhabi Launches Cultural Trail In Al Ain To Enhance Cultural Understanding And Tourism
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced the "Cultural Trail in Al Ain," a journey through the historic Al Jimi and Al Qattara Oases. This initiative aims to boost cultural awareness of Al Ain, establishing it as a significant cultural hub. The trail, available until 31st December 2025, offers cultural experiences along a 1.4-kilometre path.
Visitors can explore various stops along the trail, immersing themselves in Al Ain’s vibrant culture, history, and natural surroundings. They can engage with cultural programmes and visit historic homes and mosques where traditions are actively preserved. The trail is accessible during Manar Abu Dhabi's light art exhibition, enhancing the immersive experience by integrating light installations into the oasis landscape.

The Al-Qattara trail extends over 1.4 kilometres, connecting seven historic structures, including the prominent Al-Bahaita Al-Darmaki Mosque. Meanwhile, the Al-Jimi Oasis trail covers one kilometre, linking five historic sites like the House of Abdullah bin Ahmed Al-Dhaheri. Both trails are interconnected within this UNESCO World Heritage site, offering stories of local communities and creativity.
The trail supports Al Ain's designation as the Gulf Tourism Capital for 2025 by GCC Ministers of Tourism. It highlights Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s pivotal role in regional tourism and cultural exchange. The oases’ activation includes diverse initiatives from across the Gulf region.
Activities include markets with popular food stalls, a date and honey market area, live date-pressing demonstrations using ancestral methods, storytelling sessions led by Emirati guides, an exploration centre, an exhibition showcasing Intangible Cultural Heritage from the UAE and GCC, a library corner with GCC books editions, and traditional Gulf performances featuring instruments like the oud and drums.
Entry to the "Cultural Trail in Al Ain" is complimentary from 08:00 to midnight. This initiative not only enriches visitors' understanding but also strengthens their connection with Al Ain’s unique cultural identity.
