BRICS Summit In Kazan To Address Global Cooperation And Membership Expansion
The upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan will see participation from 36 countries and six international organisations. Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov shared this information during a briefing on 21st October, as reported by TV BRICS. The event will commence with an informal lunch at Kazan City Hall on 22nd October, followed by a meeting of BRICS member states the next morning.
On 23rd October, leaders will engage in discussions focusing on pressing global issues. They aim to exchange views on cooperation among BRICS nations in the international arena. Key topics include financial collaboration and the sensitive matter of expanding BRICS membership. The potential formalisation of new members as partners is also expected to be addressed.

The summit's second segment, the BRICS+ format meeting, is scheduled for 24th October. Representatives from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America will evaluate economic and trade cooperation. They will also review cultural and humanitarian collaborations while discussing sustainable development and food security.
A gala reception hosted by the Russian President is planned for the evening of 23rd October. Leaders and heads of delegations from BRICS countries, along with representatives from participating states in the enlarged meeting, have been invited to attend this event.
On the same day as the BRICS+ meeting, Dilma Rousseff, President of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), along with Sergey Katyrin, Chairman of the Russian part of the BRICS Business Council and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia, will deliver presentations. These presentations are expected to provide insights into ongoing initiatives.
The summit will conclude with the adoption of the BRICS Kazan Declaration. This document will encapsulate the outcomes of Russia's presidency within the group. Ushakov mentioned that preparations for this final declaration are currently underway.
Summit Themes
The three-day summit begins on Tuesday, 22nd October. It operates under two main themes: "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security" for member countries' meetings and "BRICS and the Global South: Building a Better World Together" for the BRICS+ session.
