Innovative Drone Delivery Service Launched At Beijing's Great Wall
Beijing has introduced its inaugural unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) logistics delivery route at the Badaling section of the Great Wall. This new service allows tourists to receive summer relief items and emergency supplies within minutes, according to the Badaling scenic area.
The south ninth watchtower on the extended line of the Badaling Great Wall is designated as the delivery point for this UAV route. Opened to the public at the end of 2023, this area primarily hosts outdoor hiking, adventure crossings, Great Wall studies, and travel photography. The absence of commercial facilities makes it challenging for visitors to replenish essential supplies like drinking water.

To address this issue, the Badaling Great Wall scenic area collaborated with a delivery platform to establish the UAV delivery route. Tourists can scan a QR code with their mobile phones at the delivery spot to place orders on a food delivery platform. Drones then deliver the supplies within five minutes, significantly faster than the usual 50-minute walk.
On its return journey, the drone can also transport waste generated by visitors. This feature helps reduce labor costs for maintenance staff at the Great Wall, as noted by the delivery platform involved in this UAV service.
Among the most visited sections of the Great Wall, Badaling first opened to tourists in 1958. Since then, it has welcomed over 200 million visitors from both domestic and international locations.
The UAV logistics route represents a significant advancement in providing timely assistance to tourists while maintaining environmental cleanliness at one of China's most iconic landmarks.
