Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Highlights UAE's Aviation Growth At Inaugural Aviation Future Week
The inaugural Aviation Future Week (AFW) commenced with H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council, in attendance. Organised by Emirates Airline and the Museum of the Future, this event gathers global aviation leaders to discuss the industry's future. The gathering aims to foster dialogue among industry experts and innovators on shaping aviation's trajectory.
H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed highlighted Dubai's strategic investments in talent development and partnerships across sectors, including aviation. He stated, "Guided by the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate has strategically invested in developing its talent pool and creating a vibrant ecosystem that fosters partnerships across all sectors, including aviation. This forward-thinking approach has transformed Dubai into a global leader in innovation and a pivotal force in shaping the future of the aviation industry."
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority, emphasised the UAE's commitment to service excellence and infrastructure investment. He noted that these efforts have positioned the nation as a global leader in aviation. "Under the directives of its visionary leadership, the UAE’s strategic investments in aviation facilities and infrastructure, combined with a commitment to service excellence, have positioned the country as a global leader in this field," he said.
The UAE's aviation sector significantly contributes to its economy, accounting for 13.3 percent of GDP. Passenger traffic increased by 12.6 percent during the first eight months of 2024 compared to last year. Nearly 98 million passengers travelled through UAE airports during this period. By December 2024, passenger numbers are expected to reach approximately 145 million.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects substantial growth for the UAE's air transport market over two decades. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri mentioned that it could expand by 170 percent by 2037. This growth is expected to add 101 million passenger flights and contribute US$127.7 billion to the national economy.
Sustainability remains a key focus within this growth trajectory. The industry is exploring opportunities for operational fuel efficiency improvements and sustainable aviation fuels. These initiatives aim to enhance environmental sustainability while supporting economic development.
Aviation Future Week Highlights
Running from 15th-17th October, AFW includes participation from UAE government ministers and senior officials alongside aviation executives. Leaders from maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO), logistics sectors also attend this international event.
The forum provides an opportunity to showcase visions for aviation's future while discussing challenges like enhancing logistics or integrating AI into operations. It serves as an open platform where participants can explore solutions addressing growing demand or improving passenger experiences.
The event underscores Dubai's role as an innovation hub within global aviation circles while highlighting ongoing efforts towards sustainable practices across industries involved with air travel infrastructure development worldwide.
