AUS Board Of Trustees Approves Key Measures For Enhanced Governance And Institutional Resilience
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) Board of Trustees, led by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS, gathered on 15th October in Cambridge, UK. The meeting aimed to enhance financial transparency, institutional preparedness, and governance oversight, aligning with AUS's mission and long-term strategic goals.
During the meeting, the board approved updates to the AUS Delegation of Authority Manual. These revisions aim to clarify financial approval processes and authorities. Additionally, they endorsed a Business Continuity Management Policy focused on audit-related matters to strengthen oversight and ensure operational continuity.

The board also decided to rename the Audit and Compliance Committee as the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee. This change aligns its responsibilities with international best practices and integrated assurance standards. These measures are intended to support AUS's academic mission effectively.
The board meeting coincided with the AUS Community Connect Cambridge delegation programme. This initiative is part of a new outreach effort that brought representatives from Sharjah ecosystem institutions to Cambridge. The programme facilitated knowledge exchange, site visits, and exploration of potential partnerships.
H.H. Sheikha Bodour expressed her personal connection to Cambridge, stating: "Meeting in Cambridge carries special meaning for me. It’s a place that shaped and refined my relationship with knowledge, curiosity and learning. As a Board, our work strengthens the foundation for that same spirit to thrive at AUS."
Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, highlighted the significance of these actions: "These actions sharpen how we govern in service of our academic mission." He emphasised that by clarifying financial authorities and formalising a comprehensive business continuity framework, the university enhances its ability to act decisively.
The focus remains on protecting student and faculty experiences while supporting innovation and research. Ensuring that AUS continues to meet its strategic priorities in a dynamic environment is crucial for its sustained success.
The initiatives discussed during this meeting reflect AUS's commitment to serving its students, faculty, and community with clarity and purpose for future generations.
