Travel and tourism experts recently gathered at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024 Future Stage to delve into the evolving landscape of the hospitality industry. The session, titled "Trends Shaping the Future of Hospitality in the Middle East," featured insights from leaders at IHG Hotels and Resorts, Marriott International, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Banyan Tree Dubai, Mastercard, and Silkhaus. This assembly of industry leaders discussed the current challenges and opportunities within the sector.
Haitham Mattar, Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa, and South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, kicked off the session by discussing the significant transformations occurring within hospitality. Mattar emphasized the shift in travel preferences post-COVID-19, noting an increased interest in outdoor adventures over traditional beach vacations. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the private sector and tourism authorities to create attractive spending packages for these new market preferences.

Additionally, Mattar highlighted a growing trend towards sustainability in travel, with consumers willing to spend more on companies that implement eco-friendly practices. He also touched upon the role of digitalisation and AI in enhancing customer experiences and reducing travel anxiety.
Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer for Marriott International in the Middle East, shared similar observations. He pointed out emerging trends such as slow holidays, sustainability efforts, the integration of AI, and the popularity of "dupe destinations" that offer experiences similar to traditional holiday spots but are closer geographically. These insights were drawn from the "Marriott Bonvoy Travel Trends report 2024 and beyond".
Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME for Arabian Travel Market, reflected on the session's contributions to understanding industry transformations. She highlighted ATM's role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurial spirit within travel and tourism.
