Arab Media Officials Emphasise Digital Transformation Strategies For Cultural Identity And Innovation
The media landscape in the Arab world is undergoing significant changes due to rapid digital advancements. This shift calls for a reevaluation of media policies and the creation of comprehensive digital strategies that align with these developments. These insights were shared during a session organised by TRENDS Research & Advisory, in partnership with the 20th Arab Media Forum held in Kuwait.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, highlighted the profound transformation driven by the digital revolution. He noted that media has expanded beyond traditional outlets into an open space where individuals, corporations, influencers, and even robots participate. This shift introduces new challenges but also vast opportunities for innovation.

Dr. Ramzan Al-Noaimi from Bahrain emphasised the need for renewed media strategies to foster creativity while preserving national values. He explained that digital transformation presents both challenges and opportunities, turning the virtual world into a platform for meaningful media messages reflecting cultural identity.
Paul Morcos, Lebanon's Minister of Information, stressed the pivotal moment in Arab media amid technological advancement. He highlighted shifts in communication structures and audience roles, calling for a unified Arab vision to reform the media sector. His proposals included establishing an Arab fund for digital media support.
Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in modern media operations, from analysing audience behaviour to content creation and combating fake news. Dr. Al-Ali pointed out that there are over 4.7 billion active social media users globally, underscoring the need for adaptable media strategies.
Ahmed Al-Muslimani from Egypt discussed how AI-generated information is reshaping traditional soft power tools. He stressed the importance of governing AI through legislation to prevent misuse and highlighted the dilemma of leaving digital creativity solely to individuals and programmers.
Recommendations for Future Media Strategies
The session concluded with several recommendations: establishing Arab digital platforms to counter foreign influence; launching initiatives to verify news; investing in content appealing to Arab youth; training journalists with technical skills; and fostering collaboration between media institutions and think tanks.
Participants also advocated for protecting Arab intellectual property and encouraging regional and international media partnerships. These steps aim to strengthen the region's media landscape amidst rapid technological transformations.
