Al Wathba Food Festival Competitions Begin In Abu Dhabi With AED 362,000 In Prizes

The Al Wathba Food Festival has commenced, drawing significant crowds and active participation from families and food lovers throughout the UAE. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), this event is part of the 4th Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award. The festival's goals include promoting sustainable food security, boosting local production, and celebrating Emirati culinary traditions.

Held within the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award pavilion at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, the event features 14 culinary competitions running until 23rd November, with AED362,000 in prizes. It also includes family activities, workshops, and interactive sessions for children.

Al Wathba Food Festival Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi

The first competition focused on balaleet, a traditional Emirati dessert. Sidra Ali Al Mansoori secured first place, followed by Moza Humaid Al Shamsi and Aisha Al Ghobshi Al Ketbi. Al Mansoori expressed pride in winning her first competition and anticipates future participation. Meanwhile, Al Shamsi commended the event for its ongoing support of Emirati women.

Kinnah Saeed Al Maskari, a member of the Higher Committee of the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award and Chairperson of the festival, highlighted its role as a crucial platform for productive families to display their skills and contribute to the local economy. She noted that it fosters Emirati food identity by encouraging innovative presentations of traditional dishes.

The festival offers workshops on healthy nutrition, food safety, and agricultural awareness. Competitions are open to schools, families, and people of determination. Upcoming contests include Rice and Chicken Stew on 12th November, Salt-Grilled Qabab on 14th November, Macaroni Al Tayebeen – Little Chef on 15th November, Chicken Marqouqa on 16th November, Tahatta Malih on 18th November, Pressed Date Bread and Chicken Machboos – School Challenge on 21st November, Stuffed Date Balls – People of Determination on 22nd November, and Mahalla Zayed on 23rd November.

The festival underscores ADAFSA’s dedication to empowering local farmers and supporting small businesses while promoting innovation in food and agriculture. It aligns with the UAE Food Security Strategy 2051 by enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional hub for sustainable agricultural development and community engagement.
