Al Saff Al Emarati Initiative Launched To Foster National Identity Among Young Learners

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has introduced Al Saff Al Emarati, a programme aimed at instilling a strong national identity in young children. This initiative immerses kids in Emirati culture, values, and language. It is currently offered in 11 private nurseries across Abu Dhabi, with plans for expansion to more institutions later this academic year.

Al Saff Al Emarati classrooms incorporate cultural elements into daily learning through Arabic-led instruction. Traditional storytelling, proverbs, and poetry are used to celebrate the UAE’s history and honour its inspiring figures. The programme targets children aged two to four from all nationalities, providing them with a culturally rich learning experience.

New Initiative to Promote Emirati Identity

Nurseries participating in this initiative must employ at least two Emirati educators. They also need to submit a detailed curriculum plan that outlines how they will create a supportive learning environment using appropriate Arabic educational resources. This ensures that the programme maintains high standards and effectively promotes Emirati culture.

Mariam Al Hallami, Executive Director of the Early Education Sector at ADEK, stated: "We are creating an environment where children can build a strong foundation in Arabic, further fostering their sense of self and community within a local context. For parents, our comprehensive approach ensures Arabic literacy and national identity are embedded in Abu Dhabi’s youngest learners. Al Saff Al Emarati will also support career pathways in early education for passionate Emirati educators who wish to contribute to this field."

The programme is open to both Emirati and non-Emirati families interested in an Arabic-focused educational experience. Currently, over 21 percent of participating families are expatriates. This reflects a growing interest in immersing children in local culture while promoting shared values and community bonds among diverse groups.

Parents are advised to check with their nurseries about the availability of Al Saff Al Emarati classrooms. This ensures their children have early exposure to Emirati culture and the Arabic language. The initiative's expansion aims to make this unique educational opportunity accessible to more families across Abu Dhabi.

By integrating cultural elements into early education, ADEK seeks to nurture a sense of belonging among young learners while supporting career opportunities for Emirati educators passionate about contributing to this field.
