Al Dahra Releases 2024 Sustainability Report Showcasing Environmental Progress And Carbon Credits
Al Dahra has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, showcasing advancements in environmental and social areas despite facing increased weather unpredictability affecting operations in major markets. The report outlines key achievements such as the issuance of the first carbon credits from Romanian operations and expanding regenerative farming to 35% of global activities, aligning with the company's 2030 sustainability goals.
"This report demonstrates our commitment to transparent reporting and measurable progress," said Group CEO Arnoud van den Berg. "Despite climate challenges, we've continued advancing our regenerative agriculture programme and achieving meaningful reductions in our environmental footprint."

The report reveals that Al Dahra's Romanian operations have successfully issued their first carbon credits through soil sequestration. Regenerative agriculture now covers 35% of their farmland, with a target to reach 80% by 2030. Despite operational hurdles, total emissions decreased by 7% to 435,000 tonnes CO₂e. Water efficiency improved to 376 cubic metres per tonne of production.
However, adverse weather conditions led to a 5% rise in emission intensity due to increased energy needs for irrigation and cooling systems. Al Dahra remains committed to transparency by accurately reporting all metrics. Organic fertiliser use has risen to 6% of total applications, reflecting efforts towards sustainable practices.
Investments in technology have enhanced efficiency, with Dragon Line irrigation pivots installed in Egypt and capacitive soil sensors deployed in Morocco. The company also completed its first comprehensive logistics emissions mapping exercise. Women now hold 14% of senior leadership roles, aiming for an 18% target by 2030.
Al Dahra's sustainability reporting aligns with European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), preparing for evolving disclosure requirements in key markets. This is the fifth annual publication of their Sustainability Report, demonstrating consistent transparency as they strive for net-zero emissions by 2050.
Commitment to Sustainable Practices
Operating across 13 countries with over 3,100 employees, Al Dahra focuses on sustainable farming and commodity trading. Their approach reflects a strong commitment to reducing environmental impact while promoting social responsibility within the industry.
The report underscores Al Dahra's dedication to achieving its long-term sustainability objectives despite challenges posed by climate change. By prioritising transparency and innovation, the company aims to lead in sustainable agricultural practices globally.
