Al Ain Book Festival 2025 Inaugurated By Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamdan To Promote Arabic Culture
The 16th Al Ain Book Festival, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has been inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), the festival runs until 30th November at various venues in Al Ain, focusing on cultural enrichment and literary engagement.
Sheikh Mohammed explored the festival's offerings, including cultural programmes and new publications from local and Arab publishers. Accompanied by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak and other officials, he learned about initiatives aimed at enhancing cultural activities and supporting the book industry amidst digital changes.
Al Mubarak highlighted that H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan's patronage underscores Abu Dhabi's dedication to culture as a vital part of national development. He stated, "The patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan... reflects the Abu Dhabi leadership’s continued commitment to culture as a cornerstone of national development and community cohesion."
Dr. Ali bin Tamim emphasised the festival's role in promoting the Arabic language and empowering new generations in global cultural dialogues. He noted that it strengthens community ties with reading while celebrating Emirati heritage through arts and creative exchanges.
This year's programme includes over 200 events featuring literature, poetry, and arts, with participation from more than 220 publishers. The agenda aims to establish Al Ain as a hub for literature and intellectual discourse, aligning with Abu Dhabi’s vision for promoting Arabic language and nurturing young talent.
The festival offers 28 cultural sessions, 54 theatrical performances, and over 100 workshops on literature, art, and science. Ninety workshops cater specifically to children, while three are designed for People of Determination, showcasing inclusivity.
Cultural Programmes
The Poetry Nights: The Sung Word programme celebrates Al Ain’s poetic heritage with over 30 poets sharing verses across eight evenings. This aligns with the Year of Community 2025 declaration, blending tradition with creativity through poetry and music.
Collaborating with government bodies and community councils in Al Ain Region, the Cultural Programme addresses social issues and youth empowerment. It facilitates intergenerational dialogue by allowing older generations to engage with young creatives.
Interactive Experiences
Flavourful Nights at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium feature live cooking demonstrations showcasing Emirati cuisine's richness. Local chefs present interactive meals to promote innovation and community involvement.
At the main venue, educational activities include scientific experiments, theatrical shows, competitions, and reading sessions for families. The Alpha Corner offers workshops combining art, science, technology, and literature for children and youth.
Educational Initiatives
An Educational Roadshow will visit schools and universities to spread the festival's message of supporting education among younger generations. The ALC will also honour Kanz Al Jeel Award winners for their contributions to UAE’s literary landscape.
Al Ain Book Festival 2025 serves as a platform for showcasing Arab culture globally while fostering arts exchange within communities. It continues its mission to promote Arabic as a bridge between past traditions and future innovations in regional cultural leadership.
