UAE Leaders Witness Agreement Signing With Siemens To Enhance Energy Efficiency In Federal Buildings
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was present at a significant agreement signing. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) partnered with Siemens to start a project aimed at reducing energy and water usage in federal government buildings. This initiative involves retrofitting buildings that consume high amounts of energy and water.
The agreement was formalised during the UAE Government’s Annual Meetings 2024. His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also attended the event. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and Helmut von Struve, CEO of Siemens in the Middle East and the UAE, signed the agreement.
Under this partnership, Siemens will finance, install, test, and operate systems designed to cut energy and water consumption in federal buildings by 27% compared to the average usage over the past three years. This ambitious target aims to significantly enhance resource efficiency in these facilities.
Al Mazrouei stated: "Our approach to develop the energy and infrastructure sectors are in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We work relentlessly to strike a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability."
Helmut von Struve expressed Siemens' commitment: "Siemens is pleased to join forces with MoEI in this project to support the UAE’s objectives of decarbonising and improving energy efficiency in the building sector. We believe in the power of public-private partnerships to achieve our shared vision. We will provide the latest technologies available at Siemens to ensure the success of the project."
The MoEI is actively seeking collaborations with private entities to reduce energy and water consumption in federal buildings that have high usage rates. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainability across various sectors within the country.
Al Mazrouei further commented on their strategy: "Through our partnership with the private sector, we are able to build on our achievements in the energy and infrastructure sectors and drive climate action. The project supports the UAE’s efforts to advance sustainability and preserve natural resources."
This collaboration marks a step forward for sustainable development in federal infrastructure. By leveraging advanced technologies from Siemens, it aims to set a precedent for future projects focused on resource conservation.
