Afghans Express Gratitude For UAE’s Timely Aid And Rescue Efforts Following Recent Earthquake
Afghans have shown gratitude for the UAE's prompt aid, which included relief supplies and rescue teams, to earthquake-stricken areas in the country's southeast. Mawlawi Abdul Ghafoor, responsible for food supplies in the affected region, praised the UAE's efforts as a reflection of true Islamic brotherhood. He expressed thanks while noting that ongoing tremors were causing even the few remaining homes to collapse.
Alam Gul from Chawkay district recounted the disaster's horrors: "It was just before midnight when the earthquake struck. We were all buried underneath. It felt like the Day of Judgment." He explained that people are still being rescued and bodies recovered, with many lacking shelter or food. Abdul Basir Sabat, also from Chawkay, shared that his village lost 103 lives, highlighting the dire need for tents and essentials as people sleep outside.
Gul Rahim from Dareh Diwagul reported 80 deaths in his village. He acknowledged UAE's aid but stressed that more help is needed as people endure severe hardships without homes or basic necessities. A man who lost nine family members noted that tents alone are insufficient with winter approaching. He emphasized the need for at least one room to provide better shelter.
Dr. Shafiullah Ahmadzai, Deputy Chief of Public Health in Kunar Province, expressed gratitude to the UAE for its humanitarian support. He stated: "We hope that the UAE will continue to provide further assistance. Our country is poor and our people are suffering." The earthquakes' impact remains catastrophic, with an urgent need for various forms of aid to help people return to normalcy.
The situation remains critical as residents face harsh conditions without adequate shelter or resources. The international community's continued support is vital in helping these communities rebuild their lives and recover from this devastating disaster.
