ADFD Signs Financing To Support Social Housing In Seychelles
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development agreed to provide AED32 million in financing for a social housing project in Republic of Seychelles, supporting sustainable urban growth and better living standards. The project delivers 80 new homes for low-income families. The agreement was concluded during the World Governments Summit, highlighting growing UAE–Seychelles cooperation.
The signing took place in the presence of Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles, during the Fund’s participation at the World Governments Summit. The agreement was signed by Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and Pierre Laporte, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade, and Investment of Republic of Seychelles.

The housing development focuses on residents with limited income, aiming to improve social stability and access to services. It includes 80 residential units, with a mix of 32 two-bedroom homes and 48 three-bedroom homes. Each unit will have access to basic infrastructure and essential public services to support daily life.
Construction is planned in the Orchid Villa area, with delivery split into two stages to support orderly expansion. Implementation will proceed through two phases of 40 units each, allowing careful planning and integration with surrounding neighbourhoods. This approach seeks to support coherent urban design and balanced population distribution.
| Housing unit type | Number of units |
|---|---|
| Two-bedroom units | 32 |
| Three-bedroom units | 48 |
| Total units | 80 |
Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi stated, "Signing this agreement with Republic of Seychelles underscores ADFD’s ongoing commitment to advancing national development priorities in partner countries. By financing the social housing project, ADFD demonstrates its dedication to promoting social stability through the provision of housing units that meet residents’ needs within a safe and sustainable living environment. The initiative also enhances community well-being, strengthens urban planning efficiency, and supports balanced population distribution, fully aligned with broader comprehensive development objectives." The statement links the project with wider development goals pursued by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Pierre Laporte added, "We extend our sincere appreciation to the UAE, particularly Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, for their pioneering role in fostering sustainable development and supporting community prosperity. Financing of social housing in Seychelles represents a forward-looking model of constructive development partnership, delivering tangible impact on integrated urban planning, advancing comprehensive development, and realising a sustainable future vision for our country." Laporte positioned the project as a key element of Seychelles’ long-term urban strategy.
The cooperation between Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and Republic of Seychelles reinforces the UAE’s role in international development finance, particularly in social infrastructure. By combining targeted housing support with integrated planning in Orchid Villa, the social housing project is set to strengthen community welfare, improve urban systems, and deepen ties between the two countries.
