ADEK Launches School Performance Plaques To Enhance Transparency In Abu Dhabi Education
The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched an initiative to boost transparency and community involvement by introducing School Performance Plaques. These plaques will be displayed at the entrances of all private schools in the emirate, showcasing each school's latest Irtiqa’a inspection rating and National Identity Mark. This move aims to provide parents, students, and visitors with clear insights into school performance.
According to Sulaiman Al Ameri, Acting Private Education and Charter Schools Sector Executive Director at ADEK, "These plaques represent more than just a rating — they reflect a school’s commitment to academic excellence and to nurturing a strong sense of national identity in our students." The plaques are designed to encourage continuous improvement by making performance outcomes visible, offering parents a transparent view of school quality.

The plaques highlight two main indicators: the Irtiqa’a Rating and the National Identity Mark. The Irtiqa’a Rating is an inspection framework that assesses school performance in six core areas: student achievement, personal and social development, teaching and assessment, curriculum quality, student care and wellbeing, and leadership effectiveness. The National Identity Mark evaluates how well schools incorporate national culture, values, and citizenship into their educational environment.
In future updates, these plaques will also include the Wellbeing Mark. This addition will reflect schools' efforts in promoting the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of both students and teachers. By doing so, ADEK aims to further enhance the educational experience within Abu Dhabi's private schools.
This initiative aligns with ADEK's broader goal of establishing a world-class education system in Abu Dhabi. By providing families with detailed information about school performance, ADEK supports informed decision-making as a key element of educational success. Parents are encouraged to observe these plaques during school visits for insights into the Irtiqa’a and National Identity frameworks.
To learn more about these frameworks, parents can visit the ADEK website or use its parent app called Rayah. This approach ensures that families have access to comprehensive information about their child's learning environment.
ADEK's introduction of School Performance Plaques marks a significant step towards enhancing education standards in Abu Dhabi. By making school performance data easily accessible, this initiative empowers parents with valuable insights while encouraging schools to strive for continuous improvement.
