AD Ports Group Awards ZPMC AED420M Contracts For Crane Supply In Africa
AD Ports Group has awarded contracts worth over AED420 million to Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC). These contracts involve supplying six ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 17 hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for AD Ports Group's terminal projects in New East Mole Terminal, Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo, and Noatum Ports, Luanda Terminal, Angola.
In June 2023, AD Ports Group signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Government of the Republic of the Congo. This agreement is for managing and operating the multipurpose New East Mole Terminal in Pointe Noire. The terminal will handle various types of cargo, including containers and general cargo, with an estimated investment of US$500 million over the concession's duration.

In April 2024, AD Ports Group entered into a 20-year concession agreement with the Luanda Port Authority. This agreement includes an option to extend for another 10 years. The group has committed approximately $250 million towards modernising the Luanda multipurpose port terminal in Angola over the next three years. The potential investment could increase to $379 million over the concession term based on market demand.
Advanced Equipment Deployment
Under these contracts, both Pointe Noire and Luanda terminals will each receive three Super Post-Panamax STS cranes. These cranes can reach up to 21 container rows, covering a distance of 60 metres. Additionally, Pointe Noire will get nine hybrid RTGs, while Luanda Terminal will receive eight hybrid RTGs. These hybrid RTGs are designed to save up to 60 percent of diesel compared to traditional diesel RTGs, translating to one million litres per year and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 5,000 tonnes.
