Abu Dhabi Investment Office Unveils Vertiport Network To Enhance Air Taxi Operations Across The Emirate
The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), in partnership with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), and Abu Dhabi Airports (ADA), has initiated the first vertiport network. This development supports advanced air mobility in the emirate, marking a significant step in smart and sustainable transport.
The vertiport infrastructure will facilitate electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft operations across key locations in Abu Dhabi. This will enable efficient, low-emission travel, enhancing connectivity and reinforcing Abu Dhabi's role as a leader in urban mobility. The network will feature over 10 modern vertiports integrated into the broader transport system.

Zayed International Airport and Al Bateen Executive Airport are confirmed as primary sites within this network. Additional locations and intercity routes will be revealed in future phases. The initiative aligns with the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI) cluster's strategy to support economic diversification through innovative technologies.
Abu Dhabi Airports is the anchor investor and main delivery partner for this project. The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) and GCAA are involved in developing and operating the vertiport network under a regulatory framework that ensures safety, performance, and integration with existing systems.
The network aims to connect major urban, business, and tourism hubs like Zayed International Airport, Al Bateen Executive Airport, Yas Island, Saadiyat, and Abu Dhabi Island. This will provide fast, clean air transport across the emirate. Each vertiport will integrate with ground transport and digital infrastructure for seamless multimodal connections.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi of GCAA stated: "This step in Abu Dhabi builds upon the ongoing efforts of the General Civil Aviation Authority to align the nation’s aviation infrastructure with the UAE’s strategic vision of adopting an advanced and sustainable air mobility ecosystem." He highlighted GCAA's role in creating regulatory frameworks for integrating eVTOL aircraft into civil aviation.
Regulatory Frameworks for Integration
Badr Al-Olama from ADIO remarked: "This strategic initiative places Abu Dhabi at the forefront of next-generation mobility." He emphasised partnerships between government and private sectors as crucial for accelerating future industries by integrating eVTOL infrastructure into transport systems.
Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli from the Integrated Transport Centre noted that developing Abu Dhabi's vertiport network is pivotal for urban mobility's future. He stressed that embedding advanced air mobility within a governance framework promotes safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Collaborative Efforts for Future-Ready Transport
Elena Sorlini of Abu Dhabi Airports commented: "As the anchor delivery partner for Abu Dhabi’s vertiport network, Abu Dhabi Airports will be critical in shaping the infrastructure, operations and commercial readiness of advanced air mobility in the emirate." She expressed pride in collaborating with ADIO and other partners to integrate next-generation mobility solutions into Abu Dhabi’s transport ecosystem.
This initiative signifies a new era in aviation infrastructure while reaffirming UAE's commitment to leading global shifts towards smarter mobility. The collaboration among various entities ensures a flexible regulatory environment positioning UAE among pioneers operating advanced air mobility systems at scale.
