Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Introduces Unified Gas Code At ADIPEC 2025 To Enhance Industry Standards

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has introduced the Unified Gas Code at ADIPEC 2025, held from 3 to 6 November at ADNEC. This initiative is a pioneering regulatory framework for Abu Dhabi's gas sector, setting unified standards to ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability across natural gas, LPG, and industrial gases. The Code aligns with global practices and the UAE's sustainability goals, enhancing investor confidence through a transparent regulatory environment.

Dr. Abdulla Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, stated: "Abu Dhabi’s energy sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation driven by innovation and progress. The launch of the Unified Gas Code at ADIPEC 2025 marks a strategic milestone in developing a safe, efficient, and sustainable energy system that embodies the vision of our wise leadership. The Code reflects the Department’s commitment to unifying technical standards, enhancing reliability, and advancing the sector’s transition, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading hub for clean energy and innovation and supporting the UAE’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050."

Unified Gas Code Launched at ADIPEC 2025

The DoE is leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to enhance regulatory frameworks during ADIPEC 2025. These efforts are part of the Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030 aimed at improving safety, governance, and compliance within Abu Dhabi's energy sector. By integrating AI into their processes, they aim to create a more efficient and sustainable energy system.

Through strategic initiatives like digital transformation and AI integration alongside the Unified Gas Code launch, DoE is optimising energy management. This approach seeks to achieve an optimal energy mix while empowering industry stakeholders to meet ambitious environmental objectives. The focus remains on increasing safety standards for petroleum products while streamlining permitting processes.

The implementation of these changes could lead to significant economic benefits for residential customers in Abu Dhabi. Annual savings are projected to exceed AED 100 million by 2050 due to reduced emissions exceeding 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually—comparable to removing over 40,000 cars from roads. These advancements align with UAE Energy Strategy 2050 targets for a sustainable future.

The Department has established comprehensive regulatory oversight ensuring secure supply across more than 100 petroleum products in Abu Dhabi. This framework fosters innovation while encouraging private sector investment growth through new regulatory frameworks promoting low-carbon fuel investments alongside transitioning towards full electrification in residential properties.

These developments reinforce Abu Dhabi's status as a global leader in sustainable energy innovation aligned with UAE's long-term sustainability vision targeting Net Zero emissions by 2050. By creating clear guidelines supporting public-private collaboration within this sectoral transformation journey towards cleaner energies becomes feasible under unified standards set forth by this newly launched code.
