Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate Launches 11th Edition To Address Global Stability And Humanitarian Issues
The 11th Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate (ADSD) commenced in Abu Dhabi, focusing on global strategic trends amid shifting world security dynamics. Organised by the Emirates Policy Center (EPC), this two-day event examines emerging alliances, rising militarisation, and the changing roles of major powers, with a special focus on ongoing instability in the Middle East.
Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, emphasised integrating humanitarian perspectives into strategic decisions. He stressed that people's lives and dignity, especially vulnerable groups, should be central to political considerations. "The UAE calls for cooperation to foster a more stable future and warns against further polarisation and conflict," he stated.

Dr. Gargash highlighted the UAE's vision under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the Middle East. He pointed out severe humanitarian crises in Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to providing support and advocating for peace in these regions.
He called for a collective Arab response to regional crises and reiterated support for the Palestinian cause. Dr. Gargash advocated for a two-state solution and an independent Palestinian state. He outlined three priorities for Lebanon: distributing aid, electing a president, and supporting state institutions like the Lebanese army.
For Sudan, Dr. Gargash stressed the need for a ceasefire and a political process towards civilian-led governance while safeguarding territorial sovereignty. He underscored collaborative action as crucial for achieving stability in the Middle East at this critical juncture.
Dr. Gargash also highlighted the importance of U.S. involvement during current crises but noted that "a shift in strategy is needed." He emphasised that U.S. leadership should integrate humanitarian concerns with strategic interests rather than resort to reactive policies.
Strategic Partnerships
The UAE aims to become a global hub for innovation by leveraging advancements in AI, technology, and sustainable energy. Dr. Gargash highlighted the UAE’s strategic partnership with the U.S., particularly in technology, space, and climate action.
