Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre Administers Over 89,000 MMR Vaccines To Children In 2024
The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has announced that over 89,000 doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine were administered to children aged one to seven in 2024. This effort is part of their commitment to community health. The national vaccination programme includes two MMR doses: the first at 12 months and the second at 18 months.
To boost immunity against measles, ADPHC offered an extra free dose for children aged one to seven as part of the National Measles Immunisation Campaign. Parents are urged to vaccinate their children with this additional dose, regardless of previous vaccinations or infections. The vaccine is accessible at 64 facilities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra.

Eligible students in KG1, KG2, and Grade 1 in both public and private schools will receive the vaccine during the 2024-2025 academic year. This initiative ensures that children in various curriculums have access to necessary immunisations within their educational settings.
ADPHC utilises advanced technology and monitoring systems to analyse health data globally and locally. This approach helps prevent disease outbreaks through immunisation campaigns and public health initiatives. Their proactive measures aim to safeguard community health effectively.
Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Acting Director-General of ADPHC, stated, "We remain resolute in our mission to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of every member of our community. Immunisation is a cornerstone of our public health strategy, strengthening our immunological defenses and driving proactive, preventive efforts."
The MMR vaccine is crucial for protecting against measles, mumps, and rubella by introducing weakened virus forms. This allows the immune system to build strong defences before exposure. Measles symptoms appear 10-21 days after exposure, starting with a high fever lasting four to seven days.
Understanding Measles Symptoms
Initial symptoms include a runny nose, cough, red eyes, and small white spots inside the mouth. A rash usually develops on the face and neck before spreading across the body. It fades gradually after five to six days. While measles primarily affects children, it can impact individuals of all ages.
This highly contagious airborne disease affects the respiratory system before spreading throughout the body. Severe cases may lead to complications or even death. Therefore, vaccination remains vital for community protection against these diseases.
The success of ADPHC’s immunisation campaign highlights its dedication to enhancing health awareness and promoting wellbeing across communities in Abu Dhabi.
