Abu Dhabi's ITC Launches Strategic Projects To Boost Transport And Connectivity
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has unveiled a series of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the emirate's transport infrastructure. With a budget surpassing AED 3 billion, these projects are set to significantly improve traffic safety, connectivity, and flow across Abu Dhabi, while also introducing innovative mobility solutions to meet the aspirations of its residents.
Abdulrahman Ali, the Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector at ITC, emphasized the ambition behind these projects. "We are working within an ambitious plan to improve road infrastructure services and enhance traffic flow through several strategic projects that are distinct in their unique designs that reflect the aspirations of the emirate of Abu Dhabi by contributing to the quality of life of its citizens and residents," he stated.

The flagship project among these initiatives is the 25 km Mid-Island Parkway. This extensive roadway, featuring four to five lanes, aims to connect the mainland to Abu Dhabi Island through mid-islands. It will provide crucial entrances and exits to various islands such as Al Sammaliyyah, Umm Yifienah, Al Saadiyat, and Al Reem Island, supporting a vehicle capacity of 8 to 10 thousand per hour in each direction. The project is divided into two phases for efficient execution, promising to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across the island.
Another significant project focuses on traffic improvements along Musaffah Road (E30). This initiative aims to address existing challenges by removing traffic junctions, reducing congestion at key intersections within Musaffah area and Mohamed bin Zayed City, and constructing two new bridges. These enhancements are designed to increase road capacity, improve safety, and facilitate better access to commercial zones.
Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street Improvements (E20)
Improvements on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street (E20) are also underway. This project seeks to enhance traffic flow between Khalifa City and Zayed City and reduce congestion at critical entry and exit points by upgrading intersections and increasing lane numbers from three to five. A new entrance for Khalifa City and Zayed City is also part of this comprehensive plan.
New Bridges on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (E22) and 79th Street
In addition to these projects, ITC is launching an initiative at the intersection of Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road (E22) with Mohamed bin Zayed Street. This project aims to boost traffic capacity towards Mohamed bin Zayed City on 79th Street and north of E22 towards Abu Dhabi University. Adjustments at two intersections near Mazyad Mall and Capital Mall are also included, aiming to improve vehicle flow in these areas.
Through these ambitious projects, ITC demonstrates its commitment to developing a sustainable integrated transport system in Abu Dhabi. By enhancing road infrastructure and introducing innovative mobility solutions, ITC aims not only to improve traffic conditions but also to contribute positively to the quality of life for all residents in the emirate.
