Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy And Google Cloud Collaborate For Digital Transformation In Energy Sector

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) and Google Cloud have entered into a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to harness Google Cloud's capabilities to drive digital transformation and innovation in Abu Dhabi's energy sector. The agreement was signed by Engineer Shaima Abdulla Al Mulla from the DoE and Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban from Google Cloud during GITEX Global Week 2025.

Dr Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the DoE, witnessed the signing. He stated, "Our partnership with Google Cloud will be a game-changer in advancing digital transformation that supports future-ready, sustainable energy and water systems. By leveraging Google Cloud’s world-class expertise and industry best practices together we will aim to deploy AI and cloud at scale to improve reliability, lower costs, and speed the integration of clean energy across Abu Dhabi."

Collaboration Between Abu Dhabi DoE and Google Cloud

The collaboration sets a framework for cooperation aimed at identifying projects beneficial to both parties. It facilitates knowledge exchange in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud computing. The initial phase focuses on exploring how these technologies can support DoE's vision for a resilient energy future.

Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: "We are pleased to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy to collaboratively define a pathway for innovation in the energy sector. This initial phase is about exploring how Google Cloud’s secure and intelligent technologies, particularly in AI and ML, can potentially support DoE's vision for a resilient and sustainable energy future."

The agreement outlines five main areas for potential collaboration: digital transformation and data analytics; AI and machine learning; energy efficiency; capacity building; and innovation research. These areas aim to address challenges within the energy sector by leveraging advanced technologies.

One focus is using Google Cloud technologies for managing large datasets from the energy sector. This would enable data-driven decisions for grid management, demand forecasting, and resource optimisation. AI and ML models could enhance infrastructure efficiency through predictive maintenance of power plants.

Pilot Projects and Capacity Building

The DoE and Google Cloud plan to collaborate on pilot projects that support Abu Dhabi’s energy sector's future. These projects will emphasise solutions that enhance efficiency and reliability using AI-driven insights.

Additionally, they aim to explore opportunities for capacity building through training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions on topics like AI, data science, and cybersecurity. This initiative aligns with the DoE’s AD.WE platform developed with Presight.

This partnership strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a leader in sustainable energy innovation. It supports efforts to promote efficiency, resilience, and innovation across the sector while complementing existing initiatives like AD.WE.
