ADAFSA Releases Comprehensive Abu Dhabi Date Varieties Guide For Farmers And Stakeholders

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has introduced the Abu Dhabi Date Varieties Guide during the 21st Liwa Date Festival 2025. This guide serves as a detailed resource on the emirate's key date varieties, aiming to educate farmers, visitors, and stakeholders about palm farming and date production.

The guide categorises 61 date varieties based on environmental and geographical characteristics. It identifies those suited for arid areas and others adapted to humid coastal regions. Detailed information on ripening times, production rates, and unique traits of each variety is included, along with recommendations for enhancing quality and productivity.

ADAFSA Launches Abu Dhabi Date Guide

Prominent varieties highlighted in the guide include "Fard," commonly grown in Abu Dhabi, especially in Al Ain. This variety is consumed both as fully ripe (Rutab) and dry (Tamer). "Dabbas," another significant variety, thrives in arid regions like Al Dhafra. The guide also introduces "Naghal" dates, an early-maturing variety with high economic value, primarily consumed as Rutab.

ADAFSA emphasised that this guide aligns with its strategy to promote sustainable agriculture by providing farmers with accurate information for selecting suitable varieties. It aims to preserve local diversity while boosting the economic value of Abu Dhabi's date palm sector. The guide acts as a technical reference for improving agricultural productivity and food security through cultivating high-quality local cultivars.

The release of this guide supports ADAFSA's efforts to position Abu Dhabi as a leader in sustainable agriculture. It aligns with the emirate's vision for comprehensive development. According to ADAFSA, such publications reinforce their commitment to promoting sustainable practices in agriculture.

Accessibility and Distribution

Available on ADAFSA's website, the guide will be distributed to farmers through awareness programmes and initiatives. This ensures accessibility for all target groups, particularly visitors at the Liwa Date Festival 2025. By making this information widely available, ADAFSA aims to enhance understanding of palm farming among diverse audiences.

ADAFSA's initiative highlights its dedication to advancing sustainable agricultural practices in Abu Dhabi. By providing valuable resources like the Date Varieties Guide, they aim to support farmers in making informed decisions that benefit both the environment and the economy.
