Abu Dhabi Customs Highlights Intellectual Property's Role In Economic Expansion
Abu Dhabi Customs has underscored the significance of the intellectual property (IP) sector as a pivotal force in propelling the national economy forward, boosting its competitiveness on both regional and global stages, and playing a crucial role in achieving sustainable development goals. In a strategic move to highlight this commitment, the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs, in collaboration with various partners, hosted a dialogue session focusing on intellectual property laws, copyright, and related rights in the realm of poetic works. This session featured the poet Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Khatri and was a key event during Abu Dhabi Customs' Intellectual Property Week, which ran from 22nd to 30th April, coinciding with World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April.
The theme for this year's Intellectual Property Week was "Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals: Building Our Shared Future with Innovation and Creativity." The event saw participation from representatives across government entities, strategic partners, and Abu Dhabi Customs officials. Discussions delved into the essential role of poetry in enriching society, promoting noble cultures and values, and understanding intellectual property laws alongside the UAE's efforts in safeguarding copyright and creative outputs across various domains, particularly literature.
Abu Dhabi Customs' initiative aims at fostering a conducive environment for creativity and innovation by aligning intellectual property systems and legislation with international best practices. This approach not only attracts creators and innovators globally but also ensures the comprehensive protection of intellectual property rights. The week-long celebration also included the launch of intellectual property and copyright competitions and six educational workshops for employees and clients. These workshops were conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, the "Brand Owners' Protection Group", and several entities from the private sector.
