Abu Dhabi Centre For Frontier Technologies Launched By TII And WEF To Drive Global Innovation
The Technology Innovation Institute and the World Economic Forum launch the Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies as part of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Global Network, strengthening the UAE’s role in applied research and global technology governance while linking advanced laboratories in Abu Dhabi with international policy forums and deployment partners across major economies.
With this move, Abu Dhabi expands the UAE’s representation within the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Global Network, joining Centres in the US, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan and India, and giving regional policymakers and industries direct access to shared projects, policy experiments and cross-border learning on emerging technologies.

Established with a defined mission, the Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies is set to advance research and development in critical frontier technologies, shape global policy on emerging tools, and support international cooperation that helps technology prototypes progress into deployed solutions, reinforcing the UAE’s standing as a location where ideas can be tested at national scale.
The Centre also works as an innovation engine and strategic platform, using proof-of-concept pilots, regulatory sandboxes and global convenings to examine real-world impacts, promote responsible technology adoption and highlight Abu Dhabi’s policy thinking on advanced science while giving regulators structured environments to trial and refine technology rules.
The Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies positions the emirate as a focal point for advanced research in quantum computing, robotics, propulsion and space systems, and related artificial intelligence applications, while drawing on the UAE’s agile regulatory setting and close integration between research, policy and implementation to scale tested solutions within national systems.
Through this partnership, the Technology Innovation Institute becomes part of a connected global innovation ecosystem that aims to speed up responsible use of new technologies, ensuring that scientific breakthroughs are matched with governance frameworks and industry pathways, and that adoption considers inclusion, sustainability and trust from early design through deployment.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of Technology Innovation Institute, said, "As frontier technologies accelerate, there is a growing imperative and opportunity to guide their responsible and impactful adoption. This Centre brings together research excellence, policy leadership and global collaboration in one platform - pushing the boundaries of frontier R&D while enabling breakthrough science to move beyond the lab into real-world application. By translating innovation into responsibly governed, scalable solutions, we are reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for science, innovation and impact."
"The addition of Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies strengthens the C4IR Global Network’s ability to shape global technology agenda" said Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. "By bringing world-class research capabilities into the Network, this Centre will support industries in translating innovation into practical, responsible solutions that advance inclusion, sustainability and trust in technology."
The launch agreement for the Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies is signed in the presence of H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Børge Brende and Larry Fink, reflecting high-level engagement from UAE leadership, the World Economic Forum and global finance in guiding technology cooperation.
The Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies is expected to deepen links between research institutions, regulators and industry partners, allowing the UAE to act as a testbed for responsible applications of quantum, robotics, propulsion, space and AI systems, while contributing structured policy input and practical deployment models to the World Economic Forum’s international discussions.
