Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre Extends Research Grant Deadline To March 20, 2025

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) has extended the deadline for its Research Grants Programme's fifth cycle to 20th March 2025. This extension aims to allow more researchers to apply for the annual grants, which total AED600,000. The programme supports various fields such as Arabic lexicography, literature and criticism, and teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers.

Researchers interested in participating must submit their applications through the centre’s website. Since its inception, the programme has awarded 28 grants. It is part of ALC's strategy to support Emirati and Arab researchers in advancing the Arabic language globally as a medium of science, culture, and creativity.

Research Grant Deadline Extended to March 2025

Applicants must ensure their research is written in Arabic and contains at least 50,000 words. The work should be original, methodical, and adhere to academic standards. It must not have been published or submitted elsewhere. The ALC retains all copyrights for both paper and electronic formats of funded projects indefinitely.

The programme encourages the creation of academic books and motivates researchers in Arabic linguistics to produce high-quality projects that elevate the status of the Arabic language. The initiative reflects ALC's commitment to fostering studies that enhance local and global recognition of Arabic.

Research proposals are assessed based on several criteria: intellectual novelty, expected impact, alignment with ALC’s strategy, and the qualifications of the principal researcher along with any associates or partners involved. These criteria ensure that only projects with significant potential are selected for funding.

In its previous cycle, the programme attracted 270 applications from 31 countries. This demonstrates its broad appeal and the increasing interest among researchers worldwide in contributing to the advancement of Arabic studies.

The Research Grants Programme is a vital component of ALC's efforts to support authorship in academia and encourage linguistic research. By offering these grants, ALC aims to motivate scholars to present innovative research that strengthens the role of Arabic as a language rich in scientific and cultural heritage.
